Action Alert: Help Us Get Sponsors for Our Bills!

We NEED YOU to tell your story! And help us get legislators to understand that they MUST act to prevent more foreclosures and stop the damage done to our neighborhoods and our economy from the ongoing foreclosure crisis.

On Wednesday and Thursday, January 25th and 26th, we’ll be reaching out to the 84 House Reps who are already predisposed to co-sponsor the bills we’ve filed for this session. They have co-sponsored many of our bills in the past, but they need to hear from their constituents in support of these bills!

We’ve already spoken directly with 18 offices in our first hour and a half on Tuesday, January 24th, and got a great response.  In several hours on Wednesday and Thursday, we should be able to speak to the rest of these offices.

ALSO, because we have three bills for which we did not find lead sponsors on the Senate side, we need to talk to Senators now to encourage them to sponsor those bills.

Please call your own state Representative and Senator, and ask them to co-sponsor as many of the nine MAAPL bills as possible! (Type your address in at www.wheredoIvotema.com to get their names, and click on their name to get their phone numbers.)

Please download the Fact Sheet on our nine bills (PDF), and then make your calls to ask your state legislators to sponsor this set of much-needed legislation. With your help, we have a good chance of passing these bills into law and bringing relief and justice to the thousands of foreclosed homeowners in Massachusetts.

Thank you for calling your state lawmakers today!

About MAAPL

The Mass. Alliance Against Predatory Lending (MAAPL) is a coalition of over 60 housing counseling agencies, legal services groups, social service agencies, and community-based social action groups that have joined together to address the foreclosure crisis in Massachusetts. MAAPL collects and distributes timely information on the foreclosure crisis and its effects to the public and to its member groups, drafts and supports legislation that provides important protections to homeowners and tenants facing foreclosure and eviction, documents the impact of the foreclosure crisis on local communities, networks with related organizations throughout the Commonwealth, and provides tools and information to help people navigate the legal system and advocate on their own behalf more effectively when challenging a foreclosure or eviction in court
