Please join us for a press conference on Friday, December 23rd, where homeowners will speak out about the need to record documents at their Registry of Deeds to preserve their 20 years to challenge an illegal taking of their home. Mr. Ibanez, defendant in the “US Bank v. Ibanez” case, will also speak against the new law that strips his right to sue to regain his home without requiring he receive notification.

Who: Latino leaders, illegally foreclosed homeowners, supporters and legal advocates.
Speakers will address questions regarding the supposed new deadline of December 30, 2016 for homeowners foreclosed in 2014 or earlier to preserve their right to 20 years to reverse an illegal foreclosure, the steps that homeowners must take to preserve that right, and the danger that tens of billions of dollars of household wealth may be lost on December 31, 2016 if individual homeowners do not act in time.
Free documents and materials are available to homeowners so they can learn what they need to do to preserve their rights under the new law. There is no requirement to take legal action at this time, but homeowners must record documents at their Registry of Deeds to preserve their 20 years right. The vast majority of the 70,000 households foreclosed in Massachusetts are affected by this law.
Wealth loss to U.S. Latino households between 2005-2009 was 66%; to Black households was 53%. These losses are directly tied to predatory loans and foreclosures (Pew Charitable Trust). The ability to recoup that wealth in Massachusetts depends on reaching some 70,o0o homeowners foreclosed before 2014 by the December 30, 2016 filing deadline.
